In the last week, the United States imposed a third round of sanctions on Russia because of the Ukraine crisis, signed a ten-year defense agreement with the Philippines, and publically stated that the security treaty with Japan extends to disputed islands in the East China Sea. Both China and Russia have reacted strongly to the moves, and the U.S. relations between the countries have changed from just a year ago.
