International Book Fair Commemorates Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Bogota’s International Book Fair kicks off this week.  Less than two weeks since Colombian Nobel prize winning author Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s death, the event is paying tribute to important literary figures from the past.

The event was attended by Bogota’s Mayor Gustavo Petro, the Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos , and Peruvian President Ollanta Humala as Peru is this year’s honorary guest of the International Fair. International and Colombian authors come to Bogot to participate in the fair from April 29th to May 12th.

With more than 450 thousand people expected, many will have opportunities to speak with their favorite authors in private forums. Readers and writers can walk around the 150 thousand square meters full of booths and displays dedicated to authors, publishers, distributors and representatives of the literary world.
