Ukraine: Heavy Clashes Reported in Slovyansk

Ukrainian security forces battled pro-independence militants in the eastern opposition stronghold of Slovyansk on Monday as Kiev tackled the gunmen who have overrun the region.
Another Ukrainian helicopter has been shot down in the area. At least 12 people are dead there after fighting between the two sides.

Moreover, the national guard unit is now patrolling Odessa. The southern port city was the site of deadly violence over the weekend.
Losing control of Odessa would essentially land-lock Ukraine, blocking its access to the Black Sea.
Meanwhile, the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Donetsk plans to hold a referendum on May 11th seeking sovereignty from Ukraine.
