After a month long voting process, India will finally announce election results on Friday. 63-year old Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister of the western Indian state of Gujarat is the frontrunner for the post of the Prime minister. Polls suggest that Modi’s political party-BJP, is likely to win majority of the seats in Indian Parliament.

Regardless of the outcome in the elections, the next Prime Minister of India, faces tough economic challenges. The country is hoping this will be the year its economy turns a corner and the progress depends on how quickly the new government can enact pending financial reforms.

India’s GDP growth has come in under 5 percent for the past two years, prices are rising and production at India’s mines and factories is falling.

Analysts say Modi’s record of bringing jobs and investors to his home state of Gujarat, won over the country’s voters.

Meanwhile, Indian voters say their livelihoods depend on what the new government is able to accomplish. CCTV’s Ravinder Bawa interviews people on the streets of New Delhi, about their post-election expectations from the next government.
