Ukraine to Go Ahead With Presidential Elections

Despite a stalemate in the first round of peacetalks with the east, Kiev’s election commission said the presidential vote will go forward on May 25th. The West has pushed for the roundtable talks, but Ukraine’s government says it won’t offer a seat to anti-government separatists with “blood on their hands.”

In Kiev, the deputy chairman of Ukraine’s election commission told journalists that Ukraine’s presidential election, scheduled for May 25, would be legitimate, regardless of unrest in parts of the country. Meanwhile, Pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine are planning to disrupt the presidential election.
