Expats Play Key Role in Indian Elections

World Today

The voting for the Indian general elections ended on Monday. The fate of the three main political parties — Congress, BJP and the Aam Admi Party — will be decided shortly after vote counting starts Friday.

The Indian Expat community has played an important role in these elections. The Indian Diaspora across the globe had never been as engaged in a political election in India as it has been in these polls.

Indian Americans in the U.S. are participating in the elections by raising funds, running social media campaigns, staying tuned to various news sites and discussions at social gatherings, and also by promoting their favourite political parties or candidates via e-mail messages, online forums, etc.

CCTV’s Ritu Dixit takes a closer look at the role played by the Indian expat community overseas in the just concluded elections in the world’s largest democracy: India.
