The Inter-American Development Bank hosted an event last week here in D.C., called “Transforming Futures.” The event focused on early childhood education in Latin America.

The forum was part of the IDB’s effort to help decrease the education gap between low and high income children in the region. The event ended with an Awards Ceremony presented by the former First Lady of the U.S. and Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.

The Alas IDB Awards recognize the efforts to improve the lives of the youngest children of Latin America and the Caribbean, under difficult circumstances. Elaine Reyes talks with Emiliana Vegas, Chief of the Education Division at the IDB, who leads a large team of colleagues that support education systems in the region.

They discuss the awards given by the IDB for achievement in childhood education. Among them were: Best Educator, Best Publication, Best Center and Best Innovator.
