They are paying homage to the Saint of Death. She’s venerated by criminals and those on the margins of society- and her biggest shrine is in this neighborhood in Mexico City.

Its name is Tepito, but many refer to it simply as the “Barrio Bravo” the “Fierce Quarter”.

It’s dominated by a sprawling market of illicit goods. Behind the stalls selling knocked off brand names and fake luxury shoes, the specter of death lingers; an ever present offer, and threat.
