Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Shanghai early this morning. This is Putin’s first official visit to China since Chinese President Xi Jinping took office last year. Since then, the two have met seven times, most recently during the Sochi Olympics. There will be an official welcome for Putin in less than an hour.

Later in the afternoon, the two will oversee the start of the week-long naval drill, called the Joint Sea 2014 to be held in east China sea. Both sides are expected to sign a record number of important agreements in trade and energy.

Tomorrow morning, Putin will participate in the fourth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, a security summit that aims to increase mutual trust and cooperation within Asian countries. CCTV’s Zhang Nini reports.
