7 Killed in Central China Knife Attack

ZHENGZHOU (Xinhua) — Seven people were killed and one seriously injured in a knife attack in central China’s Henan Province on Wednesday, police said. 

According to the local police, the knife attack was the result of a neighborhood dispute and occurred at around 4 a.m. on Wednesday in a village of Lushan County in Pingdingshan City.

The suspect has been seized by police. Further investigation is under way.

The China News Service said the attack occurred at 4 a.m. Wednesday in the county of Lushan in Henan province. It says the attacker was captured.

The report says the attack was prompted by disputes with neighbors but gave no details.

China’s countryside is rife with disputes over land, business dealings and other issues. Attacks involving knives, rat poison and other weapons are reported regularly.

On Tuesday, the government of the city of Macheng in the central province of Hubei said a man attacked first- and second-graders at a school, injuring eight children.
