Guatemalan Kites

In Guatemala, kites are used to connect with loved ones who have died and to honor their memory. Some of the handmade kites weigh up to 15-hundred pounds. They’re made from bamboo, tissue paper and often have handwritten message attached to their tails. They say the higher the kite flies, the more likely it is that the message will reach the afterlife.

After a special festival, these masterpieces are ceremoniously burned and the ashes preserved. Take a look at an uplifting story about mourning.
