Speculation of Military Strike Keeps East Ukraine Tense

Eastern Ukraine remains tense. Sporadic gunfire could be heard all day Wednesday near the Donetsk airport as pro-Russian militiamen fought with Ukrainian forces. Ukrainian officials say that they control the airport while the militias claim they control the area surrounding it.

As speculation runs high about an imminent Ukrainian military strike on separatist strongholds. The presumed new president, Petro Poroshenko, has called the pro-independence groups fascists, and has pledged to drive them out.
