U.S. is at Greater Risk of Hunger Than Ever Before

Even in industrialized and developed countries like the United States, hunger remains a very real issue that’s plaguing millions.

There are more Americans at risk of hunger today than at any point in recent history. The U.S. government began an early version of its so-called “food stamp” program in 1939. Those in need were given actual stamps, that they could then redeem for food.

Todaythose benefits are loaded onto a special debit card. And more Americans than ever are using it.

The United Nations made hunger and poverty part of its Millenium Development Goals. China is among the first developing countries to meet the poverty target. Ray Buchanan, Founder and International President of Stop Hunger Now, says he believes other countries can duplicate China’s success.
