The U.S. led war there is almost thirteen years old. It’s resulted in the deaths of thousands of Afghan civilians. And U.S. forces have suffered major losses too. Now, President Barack Obama says the number of American troops in Afghanistan will be cut to just under 10, 000 by the end of the year. And, he says, the U.S. withdrawal will be complete by the end of 2016.

Many Americans are wondering why their troops are still in Afghanistan after all these years. And some question if the war was really worth it. CCTV’s Anand Naidoo is joined by Tony Shaffer, Senior Fellow at the London Center for Policy Research, He’s also served in the U.S. Army as a Lt. Colonel; and, Stephen Miles, the coalition coordinator for Win Without War, to discuss more.
