Chinese food has been popular in the United States for decades. And no more so than in New York, where takeout food is king.

But some in the Chinese American community are concerned that much of the food on offer isn’t a true reflection of Chinese cuisine.

With time and a wish to break into the U.S. market, American Chinese food was born.

Many in the Chinese community say these dishes are made with sweet sauces and softer vegetables to cater to the American palate.

Staff here at the Yeah Shanghai Deluxe restaurant say sesame chicken is popular but it’s not exactly traditional. Some restaurants in New York’s Chinatown are trying to give Americans a more authentic taste of Chinese cuisine. CCTV’s William Denselow reports from New York.
