Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah have formed a unity government following years of failed attempts of reconciliation. According to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, it is a day to mark in history.

Following seven years of dispute, the Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah have come together. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas swore in a unity government made of a 17-member cabinet in Ramallah.

The two factions have been divided since Hamas seized control of the Gaza strip in 2007. Abbas says this is no more.

“The importance of this government is that we ended the division and we will continue in our path to have national reconciliation. This is the most important step, it was the hardest mission but we get through it.”
