There were an estimated 2.4 billion internet users by the end of 2012.

Some experts say global internet traffic is expected to double by 2016 most of that growth coming from developing economies.

That explosion may eventually change how the world accesses the web. About 20 top executives from the some of the world’s leading tech companies are here in Seattle-including Facebook, Mozilla, Ericsson and Amazon.

A number of startups are here, as well as officials from agencies like UNICEF and the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA.

Cheaper mobile devices are just one of the key factors in getting the developing world connected, but some believe a $20 dollar tablet is the next big thing.
