For months, the Central African Republic has been marred in sectarian violence. Two religious militant groups wage war against one another, killing and displacing thousands.

So far, efforts by the UN, France, and the African Union have failed to stop the violence. UN General Secretary Ban Ki- moon warned that if the international community doesn’t stop the violence, the Central African Republic may become “another Rwanda.”

To discuss the current situation in the Central African Republic, CCTV’s Anand Naidoo is joined by former CAR Prime Minister Martin Ziguélé. He is currently the President of the MLPC, the Movement for the Liberation of the Central African People.

The world is watching events unfold in two other flashpoints in Africa. In Nigeria, President Goodluck Jonathan is struggling to deal with the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram that has unleashed terror across the nation. While in South Sudan, tens of thousands are homeless as the world’s youngest nation reels from months of ethnic violence. So what can be done to end this cycle of violence and suffering?

There are many individuals and organizations trying to help those caught in conflict zones: Hakeem Kae-Kazim, an actor in Los Angeles, is one of them. He has featured in films such as “Hotel Rwanda,” “Pirates of the Caribbean” as well as the hit TV show “24.” He’s also a global ambassador for Africa 2.0, an organization of young African leaders that want to improve the region.
