It has been an extraordinary day in Normandy, France, where world leaders and some of the last veterans have gathered to mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

The massive Allied invasion of Nazi occupied Europe on June 6, 1944 was the biggest amphibious assault in military history. It helped bring an end to the Second World War in Europe.

French President Francois Hollande has called it a “day that changed the world.” CCTV’s Richard Bestic reports from Normandy.
