U.S. job market in May

Global Business

The U.S. labor market continued its healthy pace of growth last month. Total payrolls now back to their pre-recession levels in 2008.

Nearly 220 thousand new jobs were created in May — virtually all of them in the private sector. It’s the fourth-straight month of gains above 200 thousand – the longest streak in 14 years.

Unemployment stayed the same at 6.3% — after dipping in April. But labor force participation remains at a more than 30-year low as Americans struggle to find full-time jobs.

Still economists are optimistic, but they say there are still work to be done.
