But on the field Thursday, Brazil’s football team gave the country something to cheer about. It won the opening match of the 2014 World Cup beating Croatia 3 to 1. The match was tied at the half. And in the second half, Brazil scored two goals to secure the opening victory. As expected, the country is ecstatic. CCTV’s Paulo Cabral is outside the stadium in Sao Paulo.

The Opening Ceremony featured all sorts of performances, including the singing of the World Cup theme song. Brazil’s own Claudia Leitte took to the stage with Jennifer Lopez and rapper Pitbull. In the match that just wrapped up, 60-thousand fans were in attendance, along with 12 foreign heads of state.
