Pele

He’s a man called the World Player of the Century, the Athlete of the Century and is often called by experts, critics, former and current players alike, as the greatest football player that ever lived. His name is Pele.

Simply known as “the King,” inside and outside of his home country, Pele is admired by fans throughout the world. This title was bestowed upon him by a former president.

His scoring record is unmatched, having scored 1,281 goals in 1,363 games played over his long career. A few of those goals were scored in the World Cups he played for in Brazil. This is a man who holds the distinct record of being the only player in history to have won the title three times.

He was 15 when he was recruited to play for a top football club, and in 1958 helped spur Brazil’s National team to the World Cup. Pele was only 17 when he first became a World Cup champion.

Elaine Reyes talks to “The King” of football to discuss his thoughts about the protests going on outside of the World Cup and what it will mean to him personally if Brazil takes home the title of FIFA World Cup champions.
