Millions of ballots have made their way to counting centers across Afghanistan, despite fears of wide-scale bloodshed. Eleven people, including election workers, were killed in a roadside bombing of their bus.

The blast came after the polls closed. Violence spiked, as the Taliban launched hundreds of attacks killing dozens including police and army personnel. The second-round pitted former anti-Taliban fighter Abdullah Abdullah against ex-World Bank economist Ashraf Ghani.
