Russia’s Gazprom rejected Ukraine’s pleas for lower price as well as the proposed plan by the European Comission which suggested for Ukraine to pay 1 billion to Russia right away and to cover the remaining debt, which stands at over 4 billion dollars with six separate payments before the end of the year.

The European Comission also suggested to have winter prices and summer prices for Russian gas, with winter price being 385 dollars and summer price 300 dollars per one thousand cubic meters.  Now Gazprom rejected that plan.

Both the Russian energy giant and the Ukrainian state company filed lawsuits today with an arbitration institution in Stockholm.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev accused Ukraine of blackmail and said it was already given preferential conditions. CCTV’s Anya Ardayeva reports from Moscow.
