Afghanistan elections: Millions show up to vote, despite Taliban threats

Millions of Afghans voted over the weekend to decide on a new president. It will be the country’s first democratic transfer of power after incumbent Hamid Karzai reached the end of his maximum term. The two candidates facing off were Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Gani Ahmadzai.

Security forces took posts in major cities amid threats by the Taliban to attack voting stations. A number of suicide bombings and rocket attacks were reported, but no polling station was hit. Official results will be released on July 22nd. CCTV’s Sean Callebs reports.
