More on the raid that captured terror suspect Khattala

The United States has announced that it has apprehended one of the suspects behind the terrorist attack on a U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi. His name is Ahmed Abu Khattala and American military officials describe him as a “key figure” in the attack that killed four Americans including the Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens. Captured Ahmed Abu Khatallah is the only person so far arrested in the attack that killed 4 Americans, including the U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens. No photographs are known to exist of him but he is no stranger to the media. In the months and years after the attack, Khatallah gave numerous interviews to western media organizations in which he denied having a role in the attack. In 2013, he was interviewed by CNN at an outdoor cafe in Benghazi.

These interviews infuriated critics of President Obama who claimed his administration was not doing enough to bring the people behind the attack to justice and wondered why U.S. authorities could not find him when journalists could. On Tuesday, the U.S. State Department pushed back, saying that it was far from “unprecedented” for the media to interview terrorists or people of the like, and it was by no means a surprise.

According to the Pentagon US military personnel along with the FBI conducted a raid on Sunday in Libya and captured Khatalla. No one was hurt in the raid and they wouldn’t say if anyone else was captured besides Khattala.
Khatalla is thought to be in his 40s and a commander in the Ansar al Sharia militia in Libya.
