As doctors leave, Venezuela’s health care in crisis

Venezuela’s healthcare sector is disintegrating. Thousands of doctors are leaving. They say it’s because of poor working conditions plus a lack of safety and resources. It is hard to accurately tell the exact doctor-to-patient ratio in Venezuela. And whether or not experts are alarmed by doctors going abroad, the shortage of medical personnel is visible.

In the past decade, a government-sponsored program has trained more than 18,000 medical professionals. The challenge now is keeping these doctors.

As CCTV’s Martin Markovits reports, the mass exodus is a prescription for disaster for millions of people already struggling to stay healthy.
