Of Colombia’s population of 47 million, latest government figures show some 4 and a half million are classified as homeless.

Along with the host of challenges they face on a daily basis, many homeless people in Colombia fear a dramatic increase in anti-homeless violence. From January to April of this year, 11 homeless people were murdered in Bogotá alone.

While the city’s local government has programs to help the homeless, the number of street dwellers may be on the rise.
