Egypt’s recent political turmoil means the choice of new players is limited, so the top two clubs, Al Ahly and Al Zamalek, are forced to fight over the same local players.

To keep the best talent from leaving Egypt to play for European teams, local clubs have blocked international transfers. The football academy system could be a possible solution to allow Egyptian players more mobility and more opportunities.
