U.S. drone report: Risks of a war without an end

There is a new report about the use of drones by the United States. The report was released by an American NGO, The Stimson Center, on Thursday. CCTV's Jim Spellman reports.

The study finds that although drones may have helped fight American battles outside the country, it has come at a heavy price. It also claims the use of drones set a dangerous precedent for lethal operations other countries might adopt in the future.

There have been no more civilian deaths than with conventional airstrikes, but it is easier to use drone strikes, and public perception issues need to be addressed, the report adds. However, drone operators are actually at more risk of PTSD because they observe their targets.

The report states that the U.S. should conduct a review of procedures, such as improving transparency with the U.S. congress and with the public. Finally, the U.S. also needs to develop international norms for drone use, the report concludes.
