Iraqi prime minister warns region about militant group

World Today

Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki warned the entire region that no one is safe from the Sunni extremists who have declared an Islamic state carved out of Iraq and Syria. Ryan Lucas reports from Baghdad.

Al-Maliki made it clear that the rise of these extremists will affect the entire region, not just the Islamic state.

The security crisis in that region seems to have led to calls for the prime minister to step down, despite his reassurance to the Iraqi people that progress will be made this week to begin taking care of the problem. As of now al-Maliki shows no intention of stepping down.
