The head of the Crimea’s Tatar National Assembly was banned this week from entering Crimea for five years. Now, some Tatars fear becoming a target in the future. CCTV’s Stephanie Freid reports from Kiev.

Although the minority Muslim population was forcefully exiled from Crimea under Russian rule about 70 years ago, a repeat scenario is unlikely since Russia took over control of the region in March.

Already, the Tatars are beginning to feel marginalized by Russian rule in Crimea. There have been reports of human rights abuses emerging from Crimea since March, including the beating of the Tatar leader.

An estimated 10,000 Tatars have fled Crimea to other parts of Ukraine since the Russian takeover.
