China calls for resumption of Palestinian-Israeli peace talks

China on Wednesday called on Palestine and Israel to stop violence and resume peace talks as soon as possible.

At a daily press briefing on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hong Lei expressed worry about escalation of violence between Palestine and Israel.

“We believe that the use of force and violence against violence will only increase hatred instead of solving problems. We hope that relevant parties can see from perspective of the people and a general peaceful situation, and realize ceasefire immediately. We call on relevant parties to persevere in peace talks and resume peace talks as soon as possible,” Hong said.

Palestinian security officials in Gaza said that since midnight Tuesday, when the Israeli government decided to launch a large-scale offensive on the Gaza Strip, Israeli war jets and helicopters have carried out more than 120 airstrikes on towns, cities, lands and buildings in the strip.

Israeli war jets killed more than 23 Palestinians and wounded more than 100 others on the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, medics and security officials said.

Heavy rockets fired from the Gaza Strip showered multiple Israeli cities, including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, on Tuesday night, as Hamas intensified its response to Israeli military operations against the coastal enclave.
