Brazil is out of the World Cup having lost 7-1 to Germany. It brings to an end the extraordinary displays of national pride that have accompanied every match so far. CCTV’s Stephen Gibbs from Rio de Janeiro reports.

Match days in Brazil are an opportunity for everyone to wear the national colors. For the few hours they are open, shops and offices all over the country observe an informal dress-down day to make it completely clear whose team they are on.

This being Brazil, where personal grooming is taken seriously, there’s no excuse for nails and toenails to be left out of the mass fashion statement. It is all good news for this man though.

Gilson Martins is one of Brazil’s top designers. Twenty years ago, after democracy had returned to the country, he began to use the image of the national flag in his designs. His work has been exhibited in New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

That brand, which is Brazil, has been very effectively marketed and proudly worn by millions of people here throughout this tournament. There are those that say that despite the result on the field, Brazil, in a way, still won.
