China’s second quarter GDP up 7.5 percent

The Chinese economy expanded 7.5 percent year-over-year in the second quarter, compared with a 7.4 percent rise in Q1. This modestly beat expectations for a 7.4 percent rise. Economists have argued for a long time now over whether China’s breakneck economic growth will end in tears. But the latest figures may have some re-examining their predictions. CCTV’s Lenora Chu reports from Shanghai.

The economy is now on track to meet its annual 7.5 growth target, with first-half growth reaching 7.4 percent — the same as in the first quarter, which marked the lowest in 18 months.
