Who shot down Malaysia airlines MH17?

The Heat

U.S. President Barack Obama says there needs to be a credible, international investigation into the crash. Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko has called the crash a quote: “act of terrorism” and accused Russia of being behind it. Russian President Vladimir Putin says he blames Ukraine, saying the crash would not have happened if Kiev had not resumed a military campaign against rebels in the east. CCTV’s Roee Ruttenburg reports from Keiv with more.

Russian President Vladimir Putin offered his condolences to those who lost their lives in the Malaysian airliner crash. He blames Ukraine for the downing of the plane, saying it would not have happened if there was peace in eastern Ukraine.

To discuss the Ukrainian perspective, CCTV is joined by Peter Voitsekhovsky, a research director for the U.S-Ukraine Foundation.

U.S President Barack Obama says it apears the Malaysia Airlines jet was shot down by a surface-to-air missile from an area controlled by pro-russia rebels in eastern Ukraine. Obama spoke hours after U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power spoke at a UN Security Council emergency meeting. She says that if pro-Russian rebels are responsible for shooting down the plane, investigators can’t rule out the possibility that Russia offered technical help.

Both Moscow and pro-russian militias have denied any responsibility. The U.S. ambassador also says Russia should take steps to cool tensions in Ukraine.

CCTV’s Asieh Namdar interviews Dmitry Babich, a political analyst for the Voice of Russia, the Russian government’s international radio broadcasting service, to discuss the Russian perspective.
