Central China’s Henan province is seeing the worst dry spell on record. CCTV-America’s Xia Ruixue reports.

According to Henan’s Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, precipitation since June has been 50 to 70 percent less than past averages.

The drought has affected more than 185,000 people and about 900,666 hectares of vital farmland.

Farmers have been watching their crops die, and in some areas the drinking water supply is at dead storage level.

The local government of Henan province has asked people to conserve water, and is putting the new Liuwan Water Plant into use earlier than originally planned.
