The United Nations is appealing for peace in Gaza. The Security Council has called for an immediate and unconditional cease-fire, and the Secretary General says the Gaza strip is in critical condition.

The leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, Speaker John Boehner, said Monday that support for Israel must be the United States’ main focus — and not peace mediation — in a subtle jab at the Obama administration.
