Rain brings little relief to drought-stricken Henan Province

World Today

Authorities in central China’s Henan Province issued a level-three drought warning Tuesday, their third most severe level alert.

The province has been suffering through the drought that is its worst since 1951 and despite some recent relief, many worry the cloud burst may be too little too late. CCTV America’s Xia Ruixue reports.

A nearby city of Dengfeng is suffering through its worst drought in 66 years. It looks like someone has pulled a giant plug from four of the city’s five reservoirs, which have been baked dry.

The local government has been forced to dispatch trucks to fetch water from a nearby river or remote reservoir and deliver it to individual homes — particularly in mountainous areas that are especially parched.
