South Africa on high alert for Ebola

Health authorities in South Africa are on high alert over the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, but they emphasize there is no need to panic. Authorities here say that South African is at low risk of contracting any cases of Ebola disease.

“Anybody travelling from these countries to South Africa displaying a rise in temperature body would be interviewed by the health officials,” said professor Janusz Pawesk of the National Institute for Communicable Diseases.

“The interview is very, very detailed because what we want to know is if the person eventually was exposed any sick person or is coming from the family which was infected with this virus or maybe had the contact with animals in West Africa or maybe was part of preparing the body for burial or was attending a burial,” Pawesk said.

CCTV America’s Sumitra Nydoo reports from Johannesburg.
