The 72-hour ceasefire between Israelis and palestinians ended over after an Israeli soldier was captured by Hamas militants. The truce collapsed just hours after it had begun. The United Nations and the United States condemned Hamas for the collapse of the Gaza cease-fire. U.S. President Barack Obama termed the abduction of an Israeli soldier by Hamas militants as a “barbaric” action. With the cease-fire in tatters and declared dead by Israel,Obama demanded that those responsible immediately release the kidnapped soldier unharmed.

He and other U.S. officials did not directly blame the militant Hamas movement for the abduction, but they made clear they hold Hamas responsible for, or having influence over, the actions of all factions in Gaza. CCTV America’s Jessica Stone reports from the White House.
