Research has shown that hunger and obesity are linked; the two often occur in the same populations and sometimes even in the same families.

Today there are nearly one billion people living with hunger worldwide and just over a billion people living with obesity.

Both epidemics stem from poverty. Obesity and hunger thrive when there is a lack of access to nutritious food options.

Ellen Gustafson is co-creator of the FEED bags philanthropic campaign and the founder of The 30 Project, a campaign that aims to change how we’ll farm and eat within the next 30 years. In Gustafson’s new book, We the Eaters, she discusses the connection between obesity and hunger as different manifestations of the same problem.
