First US-Africa leaders summit to kick off in Washington

Leaders from nearly 50 African countries will meet in Washington, D.C. on Monday as part of a U.S. effort to increase engagement with the continent.

This comes at a time of peaked U.S. national security interest and greater economic opportunities in Africa. However, the U.S. must compete with countries such as India and China, which have been building infrastructure there at a rapid pace.
