Enough illegally poached animal parts seized at US borders to fill a warehouse

Insight

At the National Wildlife Property Repository in Colorado, there are about a 1,500,000 illegal wildlife parts seized from poachers.

Most of the products were seized by inspectors at ports of entry in the U.S. Many of them are made from ivory, and can cost thousands of dollars each.

The warehouse is run by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which says that demand for the illegal wildlife trade has shown no signs of diminishing. It also said they are improving at catching poachers, who usually are sentence to time in federal prison.

As countries around the world work to protect their wildlife, the repository is still making room for more items.
