Malaysia Airlines attempts to stay in business despite two tragedies

World Today

In just four months, Malaysia Airlines has been blighted by tragedy unprecedented in aviation history.

First MH370 disappeared off the map en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers aboard.

Then another disaster — Flight MH17 shot down by (in the view of most Western governments) rebel fighters as it flew over Eastern Ukraine.

Market professionals insist Malaysian Airlines can only be saved by radical rebranding.

Financially, Malaysia Airlines was in a difficult place even before the disasters of flights MH17 and MH370. Restructuring and saving the company from a terminal decline will take years and crucially there no guarantees of success. CCTV’s Richard Bestic reports.
