Israel resumes airstrikes on Gaza after Hamas launches rockets

Israeli warplanes struck multiple targets across the Gaza Strip on Friday after a 72-hour cease-fire agreement ended at 8 a.m. local time, killing three Palestinians including a child and injuring 35 Palestinians. Israel said the attack was in response to Hamas shelling soon after the cease-fire expired

Shifa Hospital in Gaza spokesman Ayman Alsahabani said that Ibrahim Zuheir al-Dawawseh, 10, was killed and five others were injured in an Israeli strike on a mosque in the Sheikh al-Radwan neighborhood of Gaza City.

The Gaza strip has faced three wars in less than 10 years, leaving hundreds and thousands of children in the besieged costal enclave suffering from the trauma of the war. You can ask any child in Gaza to make a drawing and the resulting picture is likely to be a Israeli tank or a house being bombed by a warplane.

Mohammed Heless is a 7-year-old child, who with his family fled their home in a northern Jabaliya camp to seek safety in a U.N. school. Their new home is a 4-by-4 square meter room. His father, Khaled, said that since they moved in, Mohammed barely sleeps at night.

Ibrahim Khattab is sharing the same trauma with Mohammed, but in a stronger way. He lost the ability to walk after an Israeli warplane targeted their neighbors home. Khattab was severely injured in both legs — the doctors in Shifa managed to save only one.

According to their families, the children who are suffering the trauma of a war are lucky, simply because they survived the Israeli operation on Gaza and their names were not included in the 350 Palestinian children who were killed.
