Hollywood starting to put Chinese audiences in mind when making movies

Global Business

Hollywood is changing the way its makes its films. With China poised to become the world’s biggest market for movies, studios are rethinking their strategy.

Now most directors and producers are keeping the Chinese audience in mind. That’s led to films that have a China-centric theme. For example, the latest Transformers movie was partly shot in China and includes a lot of references that only Chinese audiences will appreciate. And it made $300 million at Chinese box-offices.

Now more U.S. productions and companies are linking up with their Chinese counterparts. Among those include Dalian Wanda’s purchase of U.S. cinema chain AMC. Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba teamed up with Lions Gate entertainment to create a pay-for-TV service for Chinese mainland audiences.
