Cuba celebrates Fidel Castro’s 88th birthday

World Today

Cuba’s former leader Fidel Castro turned 88 on Wednesday. The country celebrated with an open-air concert and the opening of a photo exhibition dedicated to his life.

Most people attending the festivities were not alive when Castro led his revolution in 1959, and some have just vague memories of his rule before he stepped down eight years ago.

Castro is the last surviving leader from the Cold War era, and remains a controversial international figure.
