It has been 45 years since NASA put the first two astronauts on the moon. NASA has faced recent budget cuts, and experts say the U.S. needs a new global mission to stay relevant.
According to Dr. Wallace Fowler, the Texas Space Grant director, “there may be an asteroid out there big enough to hurt a city or maybe kill civilization out there as whole.”
To accomplish an earth-saving mission of this sort, NASA’s tight budget may be expanded through private collaboration.
