Southern China faces heavy losses from recent downpours

Many areas of southern China are seeing record amounts of rain. Residents remain on alert of severe downpours and possibly secondary disasters.

More than 300 people have been killed during rainstorms in China this summer.

The rain has ruined the fields in the Chongqing area, with just two weeks remaining before the next harvest season begins. Several major roads have collapsed, and 11 villages in the Nanchuan are of Chongqing that are still without power.

Chongqing is not the only city to be hit by heavy downpours. According to a government report, rainstorms this summer have killed more than 300 people and affected 50 million in 28 provinces and regions. The rain has also led to total economic losses of over 100 billion Yuan.
